Commissioning
Building commissioning is a collaborative, systematic process that verifies every piece of equipment, control system, and interconnected system operates together exactly as designed. The goal is clear: confirm that the completed building delivers the owner’s design intent, energy performance, indoor environmental quality, and operational reliability from day one.
Rather than treating start-up, testing, balancing, and training as isolated tasks, commissioning integrates and coordinates them into a single, documented workflow. This includes:
- Comprehensive system documentation
- Equipment start-up and functional performance testing
- Control system calibration and sequence verification
- Testing and balancing
- Operator training
- Ongoing performance documentation that supports fine-tuning of control sequences and operational procedures
The commissioning team is led by an independent commissioning agent and includes key representatives from the owner, design engineer, major equipment suppliers, controls vendor, and installation subcontractors. Together they close the gap between design intent and actual performance—reducing callbacks, improving energy efficiency, and giving the owner clear, actionable data for long-term operation and maintenance.
